About the Resort

Seventy-five years on the same stretch of coast

Costa Verde began not as a hotel, but as a house. In 1950, architect Ernesto Ballesteros completed a private villa for his family on a limestone promontory above the Alicante coast — a compact, serious building with deep-set windows, terracotta floors, and a garden that faced the sea. For thirty years it remained private. For another twenty it sat empty.

The restoration began in 2018. The brief was deliberate in its restraint: preserve what Ballesteros built, add what a guest genuinely needs, and remove what had accumulated in between. The original floor plan was kept almost intact. Thirty-two rooms were carved from the existing volume rather than added to it. Where new materials were introduced — oak millwork, linen, travertine — they were chosen to age into the building rather than distinguish themselves from it.

"The best hotels don't try to impress you the moment you arrive. They let you settle in, and then you notice things. That was always the aim here."

Costa Verde opened quietly in the spring of 2019 with no press event and no launch campaign. Word moved the way it tends to when something is genuinely good. The first summer was fully booked by June. By the second, guests were returning with their families. That pattern — quiet arrival, loyal return — has held every year since.

Today the property employs sixty-three people, most of them from Alicante province. The kitchen sources from six farms within forty kilometers. The spa uses botanicals grown on the terraces above the pool. The beach, accessible by a stone path cut into the cliff, remains private. Little of this is advertised. Most of it is simply the way things are done here, and have been for a long time.
